The ever-popular seminars by the UK Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA) return to Sports Development Week at the Birmingham NEC and this year will focus on ‘Improving sports performance through strength and conditioning’.
Being staged on Tuesday September 23, the UKSCA programme is aimed at personal trainers, coaches and those looking to move into performance sport as strength and conditioning coaches.
The schedule of three, one hour presentations will include ‘Multi-dimensional approach to enhancing recovery’, ‘Strength and conditioning for sports performance’ and ’Injury prevention and performance enhancement in female team sports’. The programme will be repeated am and pm and will include a practical session over the lunchtime period.
The speakers - all of whom are UKSCA Accredited, UKSCA Assessors and approved tutors - are:
• Gil Stevenson, BEd (Hons) ASCC, chair of UKSCA. Gil lectures internationally on a variety of strength and conditioning topics and through his company, Sportspecifix, works with a number of national and international teams and sports governing bodies.
• Ian Jeffreys, BA(Hons), ASCC. A highly respected coach and currently the strength and conditioning coach for Welsh Schools, Ian directs the talented athlete development programme for Powys, was the NSCA High School Professional of the Year in 2006 and is the editor of the UKSCA Journal, ‘Professional Strength and Conditioning’.
• Alan Sinclair, BSc (Hons), ASCC. A full-time strength and conditioning coach with the Scottish Institute of Sport, working with Scottish elite athletes and Olympic hopefuls.
